I’d like to quote one of our most in your face annoying celebrities of our time, “There is only one October!!!!” What Mr. Cook is getting at is that FOX, is trying to get ratings, by paying him a lot of money to pretend he's an avid baseball nut that can energize you into watching the games. What I’m getting at is a little more simple…welcome to the Fall Classic.
Every World Series is unique and lends a certain magic to an otherwise routine world. This week of baseball will create heroes and goats, and moments of glory and of defeat. The long quest that began way back in April has reached its penultimate point, and the showdown between the Rockies and the Sox is underway.
Way back in April this match up would have been classified as a battle between David and Goliath, but what we have here is two juggernauts clashing at full speed. The Rockies started a September avalanche that has ground up and spit out every team in their path, while the Sox fought back from the brink of elimination to perhaps coup even the Rockies somewhat impenetrable momentum.
When they meet in October no aspect of the game of baseball will go unutilized. Veterans and rookies, all stars and superstars, closers and starters, relievers and managers; all will have to perform and bring out the best in each other to win this series. Will Todd Helton be the leader both in the locker room and on the field like the Rockies need or will Ortiz and Manny stem the tide of the Rockies avalanche? Which rookie of the year candidate will shine more Tulowitzki or Pedroia? Can Tito manage the team through Coors Field or will the Sox be struck by the silver bullet? Can the Rox catch something on the river or will Boston’s Ace in the hole, Josh Beckett, prove too much to overcome? Stay tuned in, not because a frizzy haired Dane Cook says to, but because it’s going to be a true Fall Classic.
