So many things about last night’s game piss me off:
- Doc’s return: Yanking people’s minutes around left and right, no one looked effective except Pierce, and Ray a bit. Rondo, House, Cassell & TA got point guard minutes (ugh) and none of them played more than 18 minutes (although somehow we were +23 when Cassell was on the court – you figure that out). Powe played the 1st 5 minutes and didn’t return (hey, here’s a thought – if you’re going to start him, have f-ing KG take the jump and guard Gasol while Powe takes Odom). And when you have multiple timeouts left with 50 seconds and Pierce just got a rebound in traffic, USE ONE OF THEM. He sucked as much as Walton and Vujacic last night and no one in the media points it out because he’s a nice guy. Lame.
- ABC calling Kobe the player of the game: For what? For his sterling 10 pts after the 1st quarter? His 8-21 from the floor? His 4 assists against 6 turnovers? Pierce finished with 17 pts in the 2nd half, when Kobe was covering him most of the time. I don’t get it. If anything, Derek Fisher or Pau Gasol was the player of the game, if you have to award it to a player from the winning team. But Pierce was the player of the game, even in a losing effort.
- KG living up to his reputation: His 1-4 from the line, down the stretch, and those being his only free throws of the game, well, that’s a choke performance my friend. And I know he had foul trouble, some of them were really tic-tac calls, but he also has to know better than to reach when he’s on thin ice.
- Jordan Farmar: Who does he think he is, getting to the basket repeatedly, Rajon Rondo? I am baffled at to where the help defense was as Farmar kept blowing by the much older defenders. And shouldn’t he have to tie those ears back?
- And naturally, the refs: Pierce and KG end the game with 5 (as does PJ Brown) and Ray Allen fouls out. Kobe got his 4th on a charge midway through the 3rd and apparently played perfect foul free defense for the remainder of the game. Except of course, for the BLATANT foul that they kept replaying at the end of the game, pretty much the play of the game, and yet none of the announcers had the gall to point out that he got Pierce’s arm before hitting the ball and his body after. Then when Eddie House hit that three with about 15 seconds left and almost went Reggie Miller on us, Kobe fell down with the ball (ah, traveling much?) and his hand was on the out-of-bounds line – you know, the out-of-bounds line that the Celtics apparently stepped on or over 3 times in the 2nd half (thanks Bavetta) yet we couldn’t get a replay of any of those calls. And when we don’t get a replay of a questionable call, I feel that ABC is under strict orders from the NBA to only show it if it confirms a correct call, since they are trying to put this referee thing to bed; so no replay to me means bad call. Except, of course, KG’s block of Gasol (called a foul, his 4th in the 3rd quarter) and Kobe’s “strip” of Pierce. And don't get me started on having Bavetta involved with this game, with the allegations swirling around him. Just a terrible choice to referee this game. David Stern's hubris to allow this is gargantuan.
Whatever though, I'll be in attendence when the Celtics win banner #17 on Tuesday!!!
