Hannah Karp, from the Wall Street Journal, asks "What's the Point of Cheerleaders?"
"College teams are no longer allowed to perform three-person-high pyramids and do double flips from them. High school teams can't perform flipping basket tosses and last year, twisting dismounts were banned on basketball courts."
I did a quick Google search and found the point to cheerleading. 1,2,3,4,5,6

There is no point to cheerleaders. They add nothing to the actual game and are just used as nothing more than sexual objects to stare at during the game. Basically another job for women where they don't require any kind of real skill but be able to pull off a skimpy outfit. How refreshing.

Actually, you're wrong on SEVERAL accounts here. First off, the point of cheerleaders isn't just to stare at. Times have changed for the outfits and looks, yes, but the symbolism was this... to get the fans excited, and draw moral for their home teams. If you study into the history, you'd know that. And having been one myself, I know first hand why we actually did this.
And as for your "another job for women where they don't require any kind of real skill..." is ridiculous. I hate to burst your "think you know" bubble, but we actually worked JUST as hard at times, as some of the players. Along with practice, being in good physical condition, well coordinated, some of us had to be very gymnastically inclined, as well as able to have good skill in balance and strength, PLUS performance skills, I'd like to know where "no real skills" are used.
I'd dare any of you that would agree with TC's statement, to go out there and try to be a cheerleader yourself, and see what it's really like. We trained hard... and it showed in our routines. Please, next time, before you post, do your research. It will show you actually have, at the least, some type of knowledge skills.
Whatever, I need someone like her for marriage. I need a wife from which I can get complete satisfaction. The most beautiful wife you will have the maximum sexual satisfaction you will get.
E-mail me if there is any girl like Cheer Leaders for Marriage.

Cheerleaders indeed get "fans excited" but not in the way you hope or think. Are you saying that folks who purchase tickets to see their home team say to themselves as they're entering through the gates "Gee, I suppose I will be about 75% excited but thank goodness the cheerleaders will be there to boost up my spirits" ?
I do agree that the dance skills take a LOT of work but I ask, what does choreographed dance, much like a Britney Spears concert, have to do w/ sports ? Do you really believe that a majority of spectators in the stands/seats are saying "wow, what a precision dance team. That is some talent" And if it isn't, why do most, if not all, dance teams (They're not cheerleaders) require their candidates / performers to maintain a certain body weight / size if it isn't about eye-candy? Why do they publish bathing suit calendars and even pose in lingerie? Share with us please your acumen on how this adds value to teams / sporting events ? Opps, I forgot, you stated that it's about getting the fans excited. Well, mission accomplished. I hope this doesn't jade you too much as I realize there are a lot of naive folks wondering around.
Cheers !
