"Members of the 2007 World Series champion Red Sox gathered on the White House lawn this afternoon and were honored by President George W. Bush (Check out photos).
Slugger David Ortiz, an odd sight in eyeglasses, carried the World Series trophy into the ceremony. Captain Jason Varitek presented Bush with a Red Sox jersey that read "Bush" on the back with the number "07."
Among those missing from the proceedings was Manny Ramirez, whose absence was noted by Bush.
"Sorry ... Manny Ramirez isn't here, I guess his grandmother died again," Bush joked. "

I thought the writer's strike was over? Is there anybody editing what comes out of our President's mouth? This was way too funny not to post. What do you guys think about this comment? You think Manny even cares?

I imagine Manny wouldn't give much tought to it, as it was intended to be a joke. However, this is just another example of the complete lack of social intelligence that has defined Bush throughout his entire tenure in the White House. The man embarrasses himself over and over again.
Anytime Bush strays from his written dialogue, you just know his staff and writers cringe with fear of what will come out of his mouth. I realize the microscope is on Bush at all times, and who wouldn't mess up now and then when always in the public eye. I don't envy him or anyone that is in the public eye that much. However, Bush's tenure in the White House has been one social blunder after another, and goes well beyond the occassional slip up. The man just stumbles through life and doesn't seem to have much of a clue.
I can not wait until 2009 and the end of Bush's joke of a Presidency. I realize there are 30% of the public that would support than man no matter what he did, but I can never remember a more unpopular President. Although I certainly have my favorite for the White House, I'm just happy that whoever wins the next election will at least double the IQ the Presidential Office.
Phil, I completely agree with you. The funniest thing is wether you support Bush or not nobody can deny that he's a full-time space cadet. Sometimes I wonder if he actually even comprehends the speeches that he gives, which is probably the reason why he gives such generic answers whenever reporters ask him questions.
How awesome is that picture of david Ortiz though?
I also heard on the WEEI radio today that since Manny didn't make the trip to Washington DC to visit the wounded soldiers in the hospital that all of a sudden he's an asshole. I mean it's Manny, what do you expect? Look at him.
Oh great another drawn out story that's sure to get ESPN anchors guffawing at each others it's just Manny being Manny jokes...I think it would have been a funny thing for Bush to say in a less public spot in addressing the team, but dead grandmas tend not to sit well with most people. Bush antics are the equivalent to a bad Mr. Bean movie. Sure the economy will recover and the country/world will be a better place to live in, but when you feel smarter than the president doesn't that make you feel better, and what will we do without all his ridiculous quotes?
I'm also looking forward to his departure from office, but at least Bush's other comments were funny:
"Thanks for wearing pants." - to Papelbon
"His press corps is bigger than mine. And we both have trouble answering questions in English." - to Dice-K
maybe they have a little chip on their shoulders from the ridiculous Spygate stories and just maybe they're blowing teams out to prove that the cameras meant jack, keep them Mangini, you need them more than the Pats do.
