It's Saturday morning, September 13th, and I'm not sure but this could be a record: 21 MLB games will be played today. Due to 6 rainouts last night (1 because of Ike evacuations) there will be 5 make-ups as doubleheaders today because of the rainout last night and another make-up from a month ago (Sox-Jays). Throw in College Football and Sportscenter won't have any time for their homo puff pieces and will have just tons and tons of sports to report. It'll be like the mid-90's all over again!
Just to recap: Yanks-Rays, Brew Crew-Phillies, Braves-Mets, Twins-O's and Tigers-Sox had postponements last night and today all of them will play doubleheaders. Sox-Jays had a rainout last month which is yielding another rain-out. And there would be even more games today if Hurriance Ike wasn't wailing on Houston right now, where yesterday and today's Cubs-Astros game was postponed a day or two in advance.
This could also be a monumental day in standings changes. For example, if the Sox and Yankees each sweep, the Sox and Rays would be in a virtual tie for 1st (Rays with less losses but also less wins). Or the vice-versa happens and the Rays are suddenly up 4 games (5 in the loss column) and almost lock up the division. The Brewers and Phillies are separated by 3 games in the NL Wild Card race, so those two games are huge. The Twins and White Sox are battling for the AL Central and they will certainly be scoreboard watching. Anyway, enjoy some baseball today. LOTS of it.
