While cheerleading and dance of this kind certainly require a degree of coordination, rythem, flexibility, and strength they have turned from what they were (originally started by a guy to lead spectators in organized cheering) into a certain expression of sexuality for young women all be it certainly not an unhealthy one at all. Men of any age don't go to football or basketball games to see cheerleaders in their slightly provocative all be it appropriate outfits the way they go to gentleman's clubs to meet the needs of a purient interest. Cheerleading while not needed to get fans into the stands (note: what has been called "The most storied franchise in the NFL" Greenbay did away with Cheerleaders after finding that fans didn't care one way or the other. And cheese hats will outsell bikini calendars any day) I personally don't believe the young women who partake in cheerleading in most but not all cases to be in any physical danger as a result of their uniforms or routines. I have had friends and co-workers who were NFL dancers and professional cheerleaders, and if I were a father of a daughter I would likely allow my college or high school (though not middle school) age daughter to do it though with some reservations and minor stipulations including that a high school age daughter not wear her uniform to after game parties not attended by adults.
