What helps the Dodgers here isn't necessarily the presence of Joe Torre, but the absence of Grady Little. And no, he wasn't fired from the Redsox because of Aaron Boone, it was just the icing on the cake of a horrific coaching year.
In summation, the Dodgers winning pct. will be higher than .525 in '08. If he became manager of the team a year sooner, the Rockies wouldn't have made the playoffs... and there would be no Rocktober.
yeah he wasn't fired only because of the Pedro incident, but it's what got him run out of town. Torre bringing Donny Baseball is a nice twist to the story...wasn't aware little Mattingly was in the dodgers system.
I also don't see this being a great success story for Torre...he's a great clubhouse manager, but I'm not sure he's sharp enough to handle a double switch every night!
